The 1798 Land Tax shows no Harper in the Pyrland-area parishes. Still to do: (1) Yea estate papers, Somerset Heritage Centre DD/DR, for a Pyrland lease naming "Charles Harper of [parish]" or a predecessor Harper tenant, c.1805–1822; (2) annual Land Tax assessment duplicates for Cheddon Fitzpaine, Kingston St Mary and Taunton St James, same window; (3) Taunton St James original register and Bishop's Transcripts (1606–1831) checked for any Charles Harper bapt. c.1788–90 and for the surname's local presence generally. | Harper, Charles (I60)

The 1883 edition of Sunday at Home has an article entitled "The Fishermen of the North Sea", probably written by Ebenezer Mather. Pg 200 includes the quote "My first run to Dogger Bank was made in one of Messrs. Hewett and Co.’s Steam Fish Carriers, nine of which ply between the Fleets and Billingsgate. When Barking was the sole depot, the agents of the Thames Church Mission constantly visited the smacksmen, but the introduction of steam drove them to Gorleston on the Norfolk coast, and for twenty years little more had been done for their benefit than the occasional despatch of tracts, books, and illustrated papers from Billingsgate. | Pechell, Thomas (I91)

Wife, Mary, described as a widow at the baptism of Henry on 18 Feb 1679/80. As the child is not described as base-born, this places John's death between May 1679 and February 1679/80. However, the Great Burstead burial records for this period have sustained damage. At least one entry is missing after 10 May 1679, and there are no entries between Sep 9 1679 and the end of the year, presumably because of a missing page. It is likely John died in this period. | Lucas, John (I1023)
